Paper slips aren’t perfectly uniform objects, different word lengths mean different paper weight/size, static cling and clumping in a bowl can bias which slips end up near the top or your fingers.
This is a real, if hard-to-quantify, risk that manufactured dice don’t have (dice are tested for physical fairness; a home-cut paper slip isn’t).
