the Fediverse has always been a "safe space" for people with emotional damage. If you're the kind of person who is curious and willing to challenge opinions in some attempt to learn something more, you may get lashed out at for being "ignorant" and making "your learning their problem."
Honestly when you catch a whiff of this, let them be wrong and move on. You'll have more peace. If they don't want to be challenged it's their problem.
