A thread of things I've enjoyed reading or watching lately:
I finished reading Kate Elliott's Highroad trilogy. It's a very starsy-warsy story that starts with a young woman and her robot setting out across the galaxy to rescue her kidnapped sensei, but there's less martial arts and more romance than you might expect. (The style reminds me of C.J. Cherryh, and the romantic parts remind me of Janet Morris's books.) They gather friends, join a revolution, and re-unite humanity. It's fun!
