Specifically the "monero forces privacy on users" is such a dumb framing I often see. You can easily flip it and say "bitcoin forces transparency/surveillance on users".

Whats relevant: Which carries greater risk?: erring on the side of privacy or transparency to the world?
With default privacy you can always be transparent with your transactions later if you want to be.
With default transparency you CANT later decide to be private with those transactions.
