Listening to Christopher Nolan talk about how he didn't worry about all the different aspect ratios The Odyssey will be shown in because all of the important stuff happens in the center of the frame (or "centre" I suppose he might say), I have developed a hypothesis that needs testing.
Hypothesis: throughout Nolan's filmography whatever is most significant in the shot will be centered by the camera the vast majority of the time.
