Core is the entity that is funded and compromised - without knots, bitcoin would have been fully centralized by a “central” client and would allow them to compromise nodes. They even were insane enough to call it “Core” in 2014 - as if it were they were the central authority of a decentralized network.
Worse yet, for some reason adam3us (nprofile…m09e) and his followers keep bringing up illicit material and threats to put this data on Bitcoin... it is impossible to do this with BIP 110.

Core is the client that allowed this change without consensus or a soft fork would not be needed.
