Every morning since 2019, I’ve updated a spreadsheet with my bank accounts, bitcoin, stocks, and expenses.
That daily habit gave me a clearer view of financial independence than any budgeting app ever did. I could see my portfolio value relative to annual expenses, watch that multiple grow, and know whether I was actually making progress.
The problem is that a personal spreadsheet doesn’t scale well, and traditional FIRE calculators usually assume a 100% stock portfolio and the 4% rule. They don’t show how a blended portfolio of bitcoin and stocks changes the target.
That’s why I built the FIRE BTC Compass. You enter your annual expenses, bitcoin holdings, stocks, and income. The Compass shows your level on the 9-level FIRE Spectrum, your traditional 25x target, a BTC-adjusted target, savings rate, progress percentages, and estimated time to financial independence.
It also keeps your financial data on your device. The tool runs in your browser, requires no account or login, and saves your information locally. Your financial data is nobody’s business but yours.
The calculation makes progress visible. But which target should guide your plan when bitcoin and stocks play different roles?
See how the Compass turns those inputs into a measurable FIRE plan:
