This culture, the scams, the money-- it IS a religion.
We have been treating the ultra-wealthy as royalty, entitled to rule over us by divine virtue of their superior wallets. It's prosperity gospel, the golden calf. Big bucks daddy knows what he's doing, he's super smart and fancy and if we worship him he'll give us some treats etc.
All we'd have to do is stop believing in them, deprive them of our devotion, stop buying what they're selling, and most of their wealth and power would vanish overnight.
