[…] Binationalism in such a reality requires a completely different political move: Israeli Jews integrating into and working within parties led by Palestinians, despite the apparent contradiction with calls for equality. At least in the initial stage, this is a move that requires an unambiguous political statement from Israeli Jews: relinquishing leadership, centrality, and the right to ‘define the framework,’ and joining the struggle led by the oppressed indigenous group, until shared sovereignty is achieved.
Just as white South Africans who opposed apartheid didn’t demand “balanced” multiracial organizations with white co-leadership, but rather joined Black-led liberation movements (like the ANC), so too must Israeli Jews join Palestinian-led parties.
[…] This is not a step of moral generosity, but of political responsibility, similar to white people who chose to join Black-led movements in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa—not to ‘balance’ the struggle, but to subvert from within the supremacy regime they themselves built and benefited from.
