Big question. My ThinkPad x230 with 8 GB RAM goes OOM during flake check if the flake compiles Rust. I'd say 16 GB is the practical minimum, mainly because my Supermicro X11 with 10 threads and 96 GB RAM reaches 15 GB during the same flake check. So I use a Hetzner remote builder for laptops. Nothing is fast enough for flake builds: they often become single-threaded, so even a 5 GHz CPU is not much faster than a T480s at 3 GHz. (First flake build takes 40 mins.)
