Interacting with Academics when I was in uni kinda crushed my dreams of going deep into academia - I'd suspected a lot of them were gonna be like that prior, but, actually interacting with them really just incinerated the illusion of "smart people doing smart things in smart places" - especially when I could just go have a deeper more substantial convo over a cigarette with the homeless dude who didn't finish high school that's hanging out just off campus...
