I planted this one before I knew to make a note of varieties of trees when I put them in, so I have no idea what kind of hazelnut it is, but I put others near it for pollination. It's out of the way for us and gets very little attention but is growing vigorously.
We may prune some hazels so that they grow into small trees, but their natural form is a multi-stemmed shrub.
There's a ton of interesting information about hazelnut/filbert in ancient Europe - UK in particular - and hazel coppicing over the years.
