In older scientific papers on ants you may see these symbols:
♀ queen
♂ drone
☿ worker
♃ major worker
It's not really done anymore. All of the workers are female, and the majors are too. So this system has been deemed a bit outdated since it's confusing.
Today I learned today that ☿ is really the symbol for Mercury the God/Planet and NOT just the female symbol but you know... with antennae. (UNLESS?)
