One of the occasionally heartbreaking aspects of studying surveillance tech is being swept into long email chains (often with dozens or more prominent recipients) from people convinced they’re being personally targeted and persecuted by giant conspiracies of some sort. It’s clear they’re deeply hurting and need help, but it’s of a kind I’m unqualified to provide.
It’s generally kindest not to engage, but it always saddens me.
Got three of those recently. Something’s going around.
