I believe the hadith to be authentic, and is misunderstood, the meaning here is simply the apostate.. Who became an ally of an aggressor kafir state and changed allegiance/nationality to the said nation. Sometimes the prophet pbuh may say things that are obvious to the people who have reasoning and a good hold of the classical(not msa) arabic language, but in this day and age and throughout history arabic itself and reason continue to be damaged with an accumulated compound ignorance of the mainstream churches oops, i mean schools. When you think of the Qur'an first and do tafseer of Qur'an by Qur'an itself, then see what doesn't contradict it from prophetic tradition (of course while not simply rejecting anything that might seem contradictory but actually working on its chain and paths and narrations then combining not seperating or choosing one hadith or one verse, etc) you get to the truth of a matter or subject or topic.
