no worries. In the parliamentary system the leader of the party is traditionally the prime minister. Trudeau announced in January he would step aside after a new leader was chosen for the party. We are at that day now. The expectation is Trudeau will officially resign as PM tomorrow and Carney will be sworn in, then he will call a general election within days after that.

Carney does not hold an elected position so it is important that an election is held so he can be elected as an MP.

This will actially be the first time apparently that Canada has a PM that holds no elected seat.
