Yeah it's the drought, you don't want to see my shriveled plums, at least they didn't all drop off 😂. The sugar levels will be high on the ones that are good though.
It could be root stock but yes young plum trees especially the more wild ones have a habit of being surprisingly spikey when young. I have about 2-3 young spikey plum trees growing around the mother tree here that I need to get out in the dormant season.
