Thanks for providing me with the opportunity for a teaching moment 😹
A vocabulary lesson for everyone else. 😹
📚 TODAY’S WORDS
False dichotomy
Pretending only two choices exist when many are available.
“Either work for a corporate boss or become a stay-at-home mother.”
Women can #build countless kinds of lives. Motherhood and employment are not mutually exclusive—and neither should be compulsory.
Straw man
Misrepresenting someone’s argument so it is easier to attack.
Nobody said stay-at-home mothers, homeschooling or raising children are worthless. YOU said that.
The original argument was that women deserve equality.
Ad hominem
Attacking the person instead of answering the argument.
“Go simp for your corporate boss.”
That insult does not explain why women should have fewer rights.
Red herring
Introducing an irrelevant subject to distract from the actual issue.
The value of motherhood does not answer whether women deserve equal freedom.
Vague conspiracy claim
Blaming an unidentified “they” without supplying evidence.
“That’s why they want to destroy that model.”
Who are “they”? What exactly are they doing? What evidence establishes their motive?
Authoritarianism
Demanding obedience to an assigned hierarchy instead of respecting individual choice.
“Know your place.”
A woman choosing to stay home is autonomy.
A man ordering women to stay home is control.
Learning the names of manipulation makes #manipulation easier to see. 🧠
