hardware wallets have a solid role in self custody arrangements
use diverse brands and hardware for each seed/signature in a multisig wallet. setup each seed/sig only air gapped (never connected) hardware wallet devices and import a securely generated seed phrases using the screen and buttons on the device
i recommend buying the hardware devices in cash and in person anonymously.
Best Buy sells Ledger in store. Trezor can be ordered KYC from them too if you want to trust that customer and order database to not get breached. BestBuy sell a lot of other stuff which helps compared to buying direct from Ledger or Trezor. company customer data breaches were the confirmed "hacks"
