Thesis: We have to choose righteousness for its own sake, not because we want to avoid punishment. And we have to choose freedom, not just for ourselves, but for everyone--because it's only by ensuring the freedom of others that we can ensure our own: Freedom is a collective project that emerges via collaboration with everyone else.
