Things I've learned today:
* Live USB images are complex
* Unionfs is frightening
* IMO debugging system issues in FreeBSD is significantly easier than Linux because the documentation is pretty comprehensive, and the tools are more constrained in their scope
* USB flash drives are finicky and slow
* I should probably learn more about EFI
