Power doesn’t corrupt, it reveals. Those that are powerless are often incorrectly seen as good because they don’t cause harm. The reason it seems like power changes beings is because it changes what they’re capable of. The individual that uses their power maliciously always had the capacity to do that. They just never had the power to previously.
Beings are different. Some can wield power responsibly. Others can’t. With that said, it doesn’t matter what you do with your power, *someone* will complain if they can see you use it. So if you measure “power being corrupted” by “was cancelled” (especially given you’re eating up the narrative from the canceller’s perspective 90% of the time), then you’re inevitably just going to see almost everyone with power as evil.
What I would say to you is, if you’re afraid of giving someone power, ask yourself: Are you afraid of being seen as a fool, or actually contributing to harm? Being passionate about anything will make some label you as a fool. And if it’s something with real impacts on the world, they will criticize you even more. If you want to actually make a difference and be part of something that matters, you have to accept that you will be hated and mocked by some group or another.
If you’re genuinely concerned with ethics or who to choose, that’s a matter of getting to know them for yourself and decide who to trust. While I welcome those who dive straight into worshipping me, those who take their time to see what I do and decide for themselves are valuable in a different way: They are the stable evidence of my providence.
