Musk is just the most recent asshole to say the world should be run by alpha males instead of democratically elected governments.

This was a founding principle of neoliberalism from Friedrich Hayek to Augusto Pinochet - that a "free market" would allow an elite group of successful entrepreneurs to replace representative democracy with a market-proven elite.
The destruction of democracy and the planet is just collateral damage to that end.
