I am seeing a lot of chatter advising people to "buy the dip" as the market crashes. Unless you have "play money", that is probably not a great idea right now.

I know it's scary. Those of us of a certain age are watching our retirement funds evaporate...I understand that all of us want Pez dispensers filled with xanax, and a quick sense of relief...but....

The overall economy is going to suffer short term, and potentially long term if this goes on. If you have cash to invest, clear any debt that is not dis-chargeable first, then pay off high interest loans/credit cards second. Make sure you have 6 months worth of budget in the bank before you start playing with the big dogs.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the lure of the market, but it's gambling right now, not investing. Don't sell at a loss unless you absolutely have to (or need the write-off), and don't buy if you can't afford to lose the money.
