Got a lead on a small 20 hour project a few weeks ago.
They asked for a referral for something specific and I can’t find that person so I bowed out.
They reach back out this week asking if I am still available. I said yes, explained the referral situation and offered a close second, they accepted that yesterday.
Today they asked me to reduce my rate by half and stated they have a contractor at the lower rate. I told them to keep the contractor but my rate for such a small project cannot be lowered.
The $3500 they would pay me is nothing compared to the hundreds of thousands of dollars they plan to spend to be audited.
Audits are not cheap, specialized industry audits are expensive and time consuming, don’t do them if you won’t pay fair rates.
That said, they will pay a big 4 to come in, waste time and money and the company will just pay the bill.
