But while I was in the midst of these changes, shit was gnarly. I was anxious as fuck, vigilant, grieving, reluctant, resistant, even reactionary. I wanted stuff to go back and be "simple" again.
Except it was never simple; I was just borrowing against the future to live to excess in the present.
We're the same. Shit was never "stable". It was just becalmed. Over the last 50 years we've become *less* prosperous by most measures except imperial wealth extraction.
