Jesus refers to himself in John's revelation as the bright and morning star. The Madonna in all miraculous and other artwork is shown standing on a wet/cup moon. The star of Bethlehem marks his arrival. Perhaps this star was seen by the magi arising through the dark part of that moon. Pretty sure I read something like this about Nimrut Dag and the lion stele.
