mostly we've slowly gotten better from a social aspect but economics is more complicated. unions were stronger, the wealthy shouldered more of the cost for helping to pay for housing and education. but women and minorities didn't get the benefits. my sense is we lag behind Europe generally now but I'd hope there's some good market things we could retain without the bad stuff.
