Claudia Jones arrived in Uk as high ranking official in the US communist party. She had been imprisoned and deported from the USA because of her party work, was ill and had no money. She was a convinced and fairly orthodox communist, had been on the CPUSA national committee and had a record as a very talented organiser, newspaper editor and impressive speaker.
Yet the CPGB was seemingly never interested in making use of her talents or in supporting her financially. And they definitely weren’t interested in challenging racism. What she achieved was done outside of the party, not because she abandoned the party, but simply because she couldn’t do anything with them
