I think it will be that it gets co-opted at the developer/legal level at a point where nobody wants to fork, because it's become so valuable and stable. Everyone will just accept that the centralized developer team is legally compelled to remove some vital property, just like corporate Linux distributions cucked the second Colorado and California told them to add age verification.
