The only reliable friends I've had were a few of my military buddies. The "Band-of-Brothers" effect is real.
That's why military members move from duty station to duty station. To prevent the band-of-brothers from getting larger, and getting deeper roots. Not doing so can easily threaten the civilian snakes in DC.
In my interaction with civilians, before and after my military service, they were all invariably snakes and backstabbers. This is even more true for the civilian govt in DC.
