Tofu was one of those words I’d only read long before I heard it. So I pronounced it Toff-oo to myself and thought that must be it.
I subsequently learned UK folk say Toe-foo. And my family rips the piss out of me when I occasionally slip back into Toff-oo.
But what blows their minds and drives them nuts is when my wife’s brother comes over from Japan and pronounces it Taw-foo.
I just like it and eat it no matter how it’s said 😋
