I think theocracy in general is clearly incompatible with a free and equal society. Anyone who doesn't belong to the state religion will always be marginalized and othered.
Israel would make more sense as a secular democracy adopting a secular form of Zionism that focuses more on giving Jewish people access to a majority Jewish society with democracy and constitutionally protected rights and freedoms. Like the Jewish version of a secular Western democracy.
