it’s pretty clear what that alternative is: workplace democracy and common ownership. I agree that private ownership will continue to have a role, but #capitalism doesn’t satisfy the principles of private property namely people getting the positive and negative fruits of their labor, which remain unsatisfied under all forms of capitalism.
As for economists, they have come up with new models for common ownership to make it viable in a market economy.
