back then - I think it was less complicated - fewer pressures. It wasn't always easy, especially for someone like me being brought up by grandparents (double generation gap) but I still had a lot of freedom to roam about with my friends during the daylight hours. If we were together in a group, it was considered safe. On weekends we'd walk across 3 suburbs to go to the "best" record shop and listen to the latest releases through headphones attached to the booth. We would walk to the railway station in the next suburb and catch a couple of trains so we could go to the beach. Terrible public transport - the local bus service finished at lunchtime on Saturday and there was nothing again until Monday but we managed to work around that inconvenience.
