Living and having grown up (ha) in the UK and being well over 40 I guess I’m an outlier.
Mind you, I did teach measurements to undergrads for 30 years so metric became second nature to me.
I wonder how many people could say how far a mile or km is, how heavy a lb or kg is? It is my experience that a large majority of the people don’t have a clue.
