People are always shocked to hear my two Iranian parents met in a nightclub in St. Louis, Missouri. I always completely understand their confusion, because for real, how likely was it for two Iranian immigrants, same age, in the year of 1990, to meet in a random nightclub in missouri? There’s still not a lot of Iranians in missouri to this day!

It was my mother’s first time going clubbing. She had just came to America the year prior, and was still new to American living. My father on the other hand, had been in St. Louis with his brother since the late 70s. He went out nearly every night, knowing every club and bar. A known womanizer and partier. They got married a year later.

I think I love St. Louis so much because of the mere fact that without this city, I would have never been born. This city is the reason for my existence. For that, I’ll always be grateful
