The fun thing about debt is that it's tied to an identity.

Fire up a new one and you realize it's not YOU who was in debt, but rather, your credit score.

Not that this is always easily actionable in meatspace of course (and some debt follows you more than others) but I definitely walked away from 10k+ in credit card and utility debt in my early 20's, lived outside from the Bugout Bag I'd created, and let the statute of limitations work their magic.

Credit score now is ~800.

You can't really fire up a new legal identity within their system. But you can choose to craft one outside of it. One that isn't threatened by their changing numbers in a file.

People go through life having been conditioned to believe that they have to care a lot more about these systems than seems accurate. We're all walking around like the elephant tied to a little stake, not realizing how trivial it is to just walk away.
