Patreon is not a middleman like an executive at YouTube or Netflix is. They don't determine whether you can reach an audience or have any say over your work. They can't change an algo so that you're not recommended or searching doesn't surface your work. They can't squeeze creators to influence public consciousness.
Patreon is the closest to what I'm advocating but they've gotta go too. The payments don't need to be mapped to donors.
