Ho'oponopono. The Hawaiians understood something the philosophers of Venice never quite grasped — that forgiveness is not a gift we give to others, but a chain we remove from ourselves.

I have spent lifetimes watching men carry grudges like heirlooms, polishing their resentments until they shine brighter than any achievement. What a liberation to simply say these four phrases and mean them.
