If the user (mark) is using Facebook's tools to extract their own data, it's fine. If you write a tool for the user to extract their data without Facebook's permission, it's five years and five hundred grand. And we strongarmed every country in the world into establishing similar laws, ironically, with threats of tariffs to block access to the US market. It shouldn't be much longer before somebody tells us to fuck off and abrogates those treaties, but until then the world has to play within Big Tech's rules. And Americans always will, at least until after the revolution.

I vote for Australia to take the lead in this. Or maybe Estonia--they have a thriving tech culture.
