I’m almost on the BIP 110 side. The only thing that worries me is this: I’m concerned that after tightening the OP_RETURN rules and other anti-spam measures, spammers will start bloating the UTXO set instead. That would be a worse outcome for node operators, since the UTXO set consumes RAM rather than SSD/HDD storage.
Yes, I’ve heard Bitcoin Mechanic argue that this is only a theoretical concern and may never actually happen. But Bitcoin is still the best chain with the brightest future, so the incentive for spammers is significant.
