I'm no caliper expert, but I used to work as an IT manager in a CNC machining facility and I asked the guys what's their go-to brand for one that doesn't suck. A lot of folk there had those Mitutoyos so I just bought one and I has so far been reliable. Unlike this 9€ one.
I think I also saw the non-digital version in use but wasn't sure what was the deal with that. The dial was in 1mm resolution so I'd have to eyeball the values under that.
