you need potentially a lot of digits, which isn't what usually gets printed (printf defaults to 6, for example), and you also need to avoid the stdlib implementations if you deploy on a range of libcs because at least historically they've been broken. Not impossible, but not the simplest either. It also needs to be pretty fast.
