"They don't build them like they used to!!!" in reference to American new-build houses is survivorship bias and I will die on this fucking hill.
Almost no houses from the late 1800s or early 1900s are still standing, and the ones that are were the rare few well-built examples of their time, or simply haven't structurally degraded enough to warrant demolition and replacement.
