Lots of people couldn’t leave then or now. IMO the real lesson of WWII is “people who participated in the Resistance survived at a far higher rate than those who peacefully cooperated with the authorities.”
Also there is nowhere you can move to avoid the policies of the USA gov’t. IMO it makes more sense to stay in the imperial core and cause problems, especially when the rise of fascism is evidence we’re closer to winning than ever—fascism is capitalism in decay.
