My reading of this comment is exactly that one's time is not worthless, and therefore programming is *not* free.

We trade our time for many things ... some are of value to the world, and some are to refresh us. But we need to recognise that our time is not worthless, so we "spend" it, and it's reasonable to ask what we get in return.

The comment is making exactly this point.

Anything that takes your time is not free;

Programming takes your time;

Therefore programming is not free.

It might have value, but it's not free.
