Conservatism hasn't gotten a huge amount of voters to come out since 2004. The Democrats just keep hemorrhaging their own voter base with shitty policy by ceding to conservative positions, in order to chase centrist "moderates" who don't actually exist in big numbers. I wish I was exaggerating even a little bit. As far as I can tell most of the Democrats (I mean both party operatives & members) just aren't interested in studying political science or winning elections.
