I still prefer #hamradio but I think this is a really low barrier to entry for family members that don't care to go through the effort.
Plus, when I was a kid my mom let us wander the neighborhood with walkie talkies. This feels like a modern version of that I could use with my kid.
Lots of use cases I'm seeing here. Plus mesh networks are just cool.
