Emacs' pure gtk front end is... subpar. There are issues with the scaling that makes it hog resources and runs like shit. That can be supposedly be solved by modifying something about scaling, but I just didn't want to spend time figuring that out when I had a perfectly working configuration with i3 already. So I went back to emacs' x11 front end.
